Note; illegal University simply implies that the university does not have an accreditation from the NUC.

As such, students are advised not to apply to any of such schools until they are approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Why Are these Universities Illegal?

Like we have established up there, an illegal University is any University that operates in Nigeria without accreditation from the National Universities Commission of Nigeria (NUC) it those whose accreditation has been withdrawn.

According to the universities guidelines in Nigeria as established by NUC, universities that do not meet the NUC academic criteria are never to be approved.

Meanwhile, universities that have been previously approved but do not maintain the NUC academic standard may have their accreditation withdrawn at any time.

So whether a university is yet to be approved by NUC or has loosed its accreditation, such a university is illegal.
